Week 2

Okay, my mom is going to kill me, but this was my pick for this week.  I love this action shot of my mom and daughter sledding.  The expressions on their faces are priceless!  I love the spray of the snow and how I caught them as they turned sideways and right before they crashed.  I shot this picture in automatic again....I know, I know.  Don't judge me.  Only I did turn the auto mode dial to the sports setting.  The sport setting helped to capture the fast action of the sledding.  There are many things I would like to change about this picture...perhaps when I figure out Photoshop I will come back and post an after-editing shot.

So...thanks to the hard freeze and crazy snow we got here in the South this past week, it made for some beautiful picture taking.  This is just outside my door.  I totally used automatic.  And you can absolutely judge me.  I didn't do any learning this week with my camera.  Just pointing and shooting.  I promise I will do better this coming week.  But all that aside...isn't that a beautiful picture?!

What? You mean it takes work?

I found a piece of wisdom from Centsational Girl. It rang very true to me.....

"My philosophy with photography is the same as in life.  When you open yourself up to learning new things, and take the time to do the research, when you don’t expect instant gratification, but rather seek to develop your skills over time, you can teach yourself just about anything."

See that part in red? She's talkin to me. Because, I'm lazy. There.  I said it. I want to know how to use my camera without having to put in the research and work. Soooo my goal for myself this year is to put in the time and research to learn how to use my camera's manual modes, learn to use Photoshop and....man does that sound like a lot of work.  Ah well.  No pain no gain.

We will be posting tips and links that we find so we can reference back to them as we learn about photography.  For starters, check out this blog- http://photographyu.blogspot.com/.  Cami is a friend of mine who teaches an awesome class for beginners.  Little sister and I are starting out with this dvd and our Nikon manuals. (confession....I just pulled my manuals out of a dusty box.)

Week 1

I shot this on a very cold morning in Idaho.  My camera is set on auto....cause I still don't know what the junk I am doing on manual.
I love to get close pictures of frost and I liked the swirl of the railing.
Whatcha got for me lil sis?
I used my favorite portrait subject and the new object of my infatuation for this picture.  I took the picture in auto mode while disengaging the flash (I have found that using the flash washes him out) and I love the profile.  Mind you...I still have no idea what I am doing.
